Use of French stamps in Monaco was created by mlbister
One sees from time to time, in auctions and in stall-holders boxes, examples of mail posted from Monaco franked with French stamps. Sometimes the item has been taxed and charged to the recipient, on other occasions the French franking is accepted as in the two cases illustrated.

Was there at any time in Franco-Monégasque postal relations an accepted 'tolerance' of such frankings or was it just a hit and miss procedure at the Monte-Carlo office as to whether such mail was taxed or not?
